Pittsburg hospital helps patients to vote in today's election

Updated:

Via Christi Health made sure their patients were given the opportunity to cast their vote.

Patients at the Pittsburg hospital who were not able to make it to the polls today were handed a ballot.

Hospital officials worked with the Crawford County clerk's office to make sure patients were able vote.

Patients requested and filled out an absentee ballot.

Douglas Miller, a patient at the hospital, says this election means a lot for the nation, state and county and he is glad he was able to cast his vote from his hospital bed.

"My voice was heard in this election, otherwise it wouldn't of and they are very much community minded," says Miller.

"The right to vote is something every U.S. citizen has," says Jenifer McDonald of Via Christi.  "It's something they need to do.  They need to make their voice heard and just because you're sick or injured doesn't mean you don't have that right."

Eleven patients cast their vote.

Hospital staff is making sure their ballots are delivered to the Crawford County courthouse in Girard.
