Southwest Missouri Incident Support Team goes to Long Island

Updated:

Updated November 13, 2012:  Southwest Missouri's Incident Support Team goes to Long Island to help with Superstorm Sandy.

The team relieves the New York Incident Management Team in Nassau County who has been working since the aftermath of Sandy.

The team will help the county just east of New York City.

Crews there have been working around the clock to fix the major infrastructure damage and take care of massive power, water and sanitation shortages among its 1.7 million residents.

Joplin Police Department's Chuck Niess is among those helping in the affected area, which has become worse with recent snow fall there.

Posted November 8, 2012:  The Southwest Missouri Incident Support Team is heading to Inwood, New York to aid in the recovery efforts post Superstorm Sandy.

The support team deals with logistics, planning and other tasks the emergency operations center need.

The team has experience with disasters after dealing with last year's tornado in Joplin and members say they can bring that experience to the east coast.

The group is leaving later tonight or early tomorrow morning and will be on its mission for 14 days.
