Lacrosse Debuts in Joplin

Updated:

A popular sport makes its debut in Joplin, bringing in six college teams from across the area.

lacrosse players from colleges like K. U. and Missouri State, fill the Joplin athletic complex after rain delays ended the weekend long tournament.

Lacrosse is a sport that is described as a cross between hockey and soccer.

Parks director Chris Cotten says the sport would be a great addition to the Joplin area.

"It's the fastest growing sport in the nation so we want to make sure people are introduced for their kids to do. Lacrosse is a great sport and hopefully it will take off locally" says Cotten.

Cotten says the plan is to host another lacrosse tournament next year with even more colleges participating.
