Disability Mentoring Day in Pittsburg

Updated:

Students with disabilities learn a bit about how to succeed in careers at a Disability Mentoring Day in Pittsburg.

Around 100 students from 13 area schools attended the event to learn tips about a transition into the career world.

The event broke down the basic steps of a job search.  There was a focus on interviews, computer applications and other areas to keep students confident throughout the process.

"We added pitfalls of social media because so many businesses look at what's posted on Facebook or if you're on Twitter and that can have a tremendous affect on being successful or not in getting a job, so we have two PSU students who come in and do that for us," says Lou Ann Colyer, an Independent Living Coordinator with SKIL.

Colyer says this year's event was a success with more local businesses participating than in past years.
