Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg began construction today on a new 40,000 square foot surgery center, their largest expansion since the hospital's initial construction in 1971.
Hospital officials say the expansion will help provide top of the line health care for the community.
Among the amenities it will have five operating rooms, a new family and visitor waiting area, and state of the art technology.
The layout of the new surgery center is designed to be patient friendly.
"It is truly going to be the surgery center that we all need and will carry us into the next generation," says Via Christi CEO Randy Cason.
Officials say they hope to have the new center built in 15 months.
