PITTSBURG -- Bobby Wesley scored a team-leading 20 points and Newman forced Pitt State into 29 turnovers as the Jets claimed an 89-79 victory over the Gorillas Tuesday (Nov. 20) at John Lance Arena.
The victory helped the Jets stay unbeaten and improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Gorillas (3-1) suffered their first setback of the year.
Newman scored the game's first 10 points and never trailed in the contest.
Marquis Cuyler added 14 points for the Jets, while Frankie Drayton chipped in with 11 points. Newman shot 41.8 percent from the floor (28-67) and hit eight 3-pointers in the contest.
Kaleb Porter led all scorers with 26 points for the Gorillas, while Courtney Ingram added 18 points. JaVon McGee finished with 12 points and A.J. Adams chipped in with 10 points.
The two teams combined to shoot 76 free throws with Pitt State converted 29 of 39 opportunities and Newman making 25 of 37.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Nov. 24) when they host Southwestern College at 3 p.m.
