Joplin celebrates small business Saturday

While some prefer to shop main stream stores -- others prefer to shop locally for small business Saturday. Like Black Friday - local stores downtown set up tables featuring items on sale.

Pearl Brothers Hardware in Joplin features things like scarves for under three dollars or discounted electric fire places.

     While shoppers tried on shoes at the run around -- they were also getting an extra 15 percent off shoes and apparel.

     Shopper Vicki Cash says shopping locally helps stimulate our local economy's success.

"I appreciate that the small business owners often offer unique items," Cash said. "That you don't find in the big chain stores."

"shopping local has a much bigger impact on the community for every hundred dollars spent, 68 dollars stays in the community as opposed  to big box," said Eric Bartlett, owner of The Run Around in Joplin. "Where roughly 40 stays in the community, so the difference there will add up in the long run, makes a big big difference ."
