School officials and police investigate controversial Facebook page

Updated:

A Facebook page set up to post pictures of teens with negative comments has sparked controversy.

The page was allegedly set up by a student at Joplin High School and was active for a little more than 12 hours before it was taken off of the Internet.

The Joplin School District and Joplin Police Department received many complaints about the cyber bully site.  School and police officials are conducting separate investigations and could request a subpoena of the social media site to see who is responsible.

"Almost everything, all of the calls I got and the website reports was that this was a cyber bullying site, all the comments were very heinous, hateful and it probably needed to be taken down," says Corporal Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department.

Joplin Schools urge parents to monitor their children's Facebook and social media usage.

They also want to remind students of their anti-bullying campaign launched last month, called "Talk About It".
