The Salvation Army kettle bell fundraiser is a nationwide holiday tradition, but the Pittsburg area Salvation Army is running a little behind on its goal this year. The organization has raised around $22,000 so far but that's less than this time last year.
Captain Gary Gugala says that's because they were unable to ring bells before Thanksgiving at various businesses.
The goal this year is to raise $65,000 and if they do not meet that goal Gugala says he will have to rewrite the organization's budget.
"What do you cut back?" says Captain Gugala. "We are a very small entity. We do a lot but we are so small employee-wise that had we be a bigger organization with a lot of employees then it's a little bit easier. Yeah, I would prefer we reach our goal so then we don't have to play head games."
