More foster homes needed in Crawford County

Updated:

More than 1,000 children in Kansas don't have a permanent home.  In Crawford County there's also a shortage of foster homes.

According to TFI Family Services half the children taken from their parents in Crawford County have to be placed in other communities, sometimes as far away as Kansas City or Topeka, creating more trauma in lives already disrupted.

"These kids just need someone to love them, a safe place to be, a family to belong to during that time of transition whether transition is to go back home or whether transition ends up looking for a 'forever family' for them," says Jessica Dutton, a recruitment specialist for TFI Family Services.

Those willing to foster take a class to understand the children's needs.

TFI Family Services also handles adoptions locally, along with foster parent training.
