Following an article about an Illinois state senator being arrested for bringing a loaded gun through a security checkpoint, Surf Patch offers their comments.

On December 11, 2012, travel company, Surf Patch, commented on a Daily Caller article by David Martosko regarding Illinois state Senator Donne Trotter getting busted trying to fly clear of airport security with a loaded pistol.

According to the Daily Caller article, “Last week, Illinois state Sen. Donne Trotter added a congressional candidacy to his resume. On Wednesday, he added a felony charge of attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon.” The article states that the felony could land Trotter with a sentence of one to three years in prison.

According to the article Senator Trotter tried carrying a loaded .25 caliber pistol in his carry-on bag through O’Hare International Airport security. The article stated that, “Trotter had a valid ID card required of firearm owners in Illinois, but it was not clear if the pistol itself was registered with the city of Chicago — a step required by law.”

The article mentions that Trotter told authorities he, “moonlights at a security firm and forgot to take the gun out of his garment bag before going to the airport.” According to the article, Trotter was trying to board a flight to Washington D.C. before he was stopped.

Travel company Surf Patch understand how the gun in Trotters bag could have been an accident, however still unacceptable when trying to safely fly clear of security. “If this actually was an accident, it still does not excuse Senator Trotter. Precautions must be taken before you attempt to fly anywhere, and it seemed he failed to take those precautions,” said world traveler Takara Licausi.
