Joplin man charged for commercial copper thefts

A Joplin man has been charged for his involvement in copper thefts that lead to $235,000 in damages.

Joplin police say Samuel Shira, 41, dismantled an air conditioning unit at a shopping center on 7th and Range Line Road and was involved in at least seven other similar thefts from September through December.

Shira appeared in court today and has been charged with first degree property damage and theft/stealing.

A $10,000 bond has been set.
