Newton County man charged in assault of ex-wife

Updated December 17, 2012:  A Newton County man is charged with assaulting his ex-wife.

Anthony Bruenn, 41, is charged with assaulting his ex-wife with a baseball bat Thursday night, then binding her with duct tape and holding her captive overnight in her apartment in Loma Linda.

Sheriff Ken Copeland says he had broken into the house and was waiting for her in the garage.

Copeland says she convinced him she needed medical care and Bruenn dropped the victim off at Freeman hospital.

He's in custody on a cash-only bond of $100,000.

Posted December 16, 2012:  Newton County Sheriff's Office arrests 41 year old Anthony L. Bruenn after allegedly assaulting his ex-wife with a baseball bat.

Sheriff Ken Copeland says it started around 8:30 Saturday night at her apartment in Loma Linda.

Bruenn allegedly beat the woman with a baseball bat, tied her hands and feet together with duct tape, holding her at the apartment.

Bruenn has been charged with 1st degree assault, felonious restraint and armed criminal action.

His bond is set at $100 thousand dollars.
