New restaurant opens in Joplin

It's been a little over a year and a half since the tornado wiped out more than 550 Joplin area businesses.  In those 18 months, 90% of businesses have either rebuilt of committed to do so.

Officials with the say there up to 50 new businesses that have opened or are planning to open since the tornado.

Today, Longhorn Steak House had its grand opening.

Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce officials say out of the 553 businesses that were destroyed 500 of them have committed to rebuild, like Advanced Orthotics and Prosthetics that was on the corner of 26th and Maiden Lane.

Carthage resident Kimberly Bass says she is excited to see the growth of Joplin progress.

"It's really impressive all the different things that are coming together and we are just really happy to see all the businesses and new things really," says Bass.
