Updated at 3:40 PM CST: Crews are working an accident on Interstate 44 in the westbound lane near mile marker 8.4, between the Main Street and Range Line turnoffs.
One vehicle is involved.
Updated at 3:50 PM CST: Joplin police are working a single vehicle crash on Interstate 44. They say a semi-truck is turned on its side and the driver received minor injuries in the crash. Officials say it does not appear the truck was carrying hazardous materials.
The crash has caused one lane of westbound traffic to be closed. It is not expected to be reopened until late this evening.
The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
In addition to the Joplin Police Department, the Joplin Fire Department and Newton County Ambulance responded.
Updated at 5:25 PM CST: The driver of the semi told police a tire blew and he lost control of the vehicle.
Police say the driver was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
