Thursday was Randy Kaiser's last day as a captain for the Carthage Police Department, but his friends and family met to celebrate his new title - Jasper County Sheriff.
Kaiser started working with the Carthage PD on August 14, 1995. He's worked from the ground up, starting as a night-shift patrolman, to sergeant, to a part of the drug task force, to the detective division.
"It's kind of a bittersweet moment," says Kaiser. "I'm obviously very pleased at my job that I have coming up, but I'm also sad to leave the city of Carthage."
Kaiser's first day as Jasper County sheriff will be January 1.
Before joining law enforcement Kaiser was a reporter for the Carthage Press.
