During the holidays many people want to give the gift of a puppy or kitten, but Spare Cat Rescue says it might not be the best idea.
The group works as a support agency for the Carthage Humane Society and says finding the right connection with a pet is key.
The group hosted an adoption day at Joplin's Petsmart on 7th and rangeline, but reminds potential owners of gifting a pet. The group suggests gifting a collar or puppy bed instead of an actual animal.
"If you know they want a pet, that's great, if you don't know, maybe throw some hints out, to get some feedback, we want to find them forever homes, we don't want them to come back to the shelter, so" says Anne Stocker.
The group says they have set a personal recorded this year adopting more animals than ever before.
