According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two people died in car crashes over the Christmas holiday weekend.

Thirty-eight year old Brandy Acheson of Sarcoxie died in a crash near Mount Vernon on Highway 39 when a car crossed the center line and hit her car head on. Acheson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other deadly crash happened near Springfield.

Last year, five people died in traffic accidents over the Christmas holiday.

In 2011, the patrol investigated 213 traffic crashes over the holiday weekend, with 67 injuries and they arrested 56 people for drunk driving.
