
An ironworker working at the new Mercy Hospital construction site at I-44 and Main Street was injured in a fall on Thursday.
A Mercy official tells us he was wearing a harness and was using all safety precautions.
The contractor says they are investigating the incident and the worker was in fair condition at last report.
Full statement from Ryan Felton, Project Director for McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.:
"McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is investigating an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon on the Mercy Joplin replacement hospital campus. One ironworker was injured when he fell while working on the project and was immediately transported to a local hospital. At last report, he was in fair condition. Our first concern is always the safety and well-being of our employees and all others on site. This vigilant focus on safety remains the fundamental factor in each and everything we do each day and will remain our top priority as this important project moves forward."
