Updated:

PITTSBURG -- Dillon Starzl, DeAngelo Hailey and Alex Sullivan combined for 44 points as visiting Northwest Missouri State University won a defensive battle, 62-51, over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Jan. 5) at John Lance Arena.

The Bearcats (11-2, 4-0 MIAA) remained unbeaten in conference play, while the Gorillas (10-2, 3-1 MIAA) fell from atop the league standings and had their seven-game winning streak snapped in the process.

Starzl scored a game-high 16 points to pace Northwest, while Hailey added 15 and Sullivan chipped in with 13. The Bearcats shot 45.8 percent from the field (22 of 48) in the contest, while limiting Pitt State to 37.2 percent shooting (16 of 43).

Courtney Ingram paced the Gorillas with 14 points, while JaVon McGee contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Pitt State will return to action next Thursday (Jan. 10) when the Gorillas travel to Jefferson City, Mo., for an MIAA match-up against Lincoln University. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (CST).
