Girard man accused of holding up train

Charges are pending against a Girard, Kansas man accused of stopping a train with a gun in Pittsburg and leading authorities on a chase into Cherokee County.

Police say a man parked his van on the railroad tracks near Jefferson Street in Pittsburg last Friday afternoon, forcing the train to come to a halt.

According to witnesses the man was wearing a bandana over the bottom half of his face and pointing a weapon.

He later led police on a pursuit south into Cherokee County where he was arrested after deputies deflated the van's tires.

The 27-year-old is currently in the Cherokee County jail.
