PARSONS, KS --- 2012 marked a banner year for the Parsons Municipal Auditorium as the venue hosted a total of 47 separate events with a combined attendance of 21,100 people. That means more than twice the population of Parsons came through the doors of the auditorium during the past year.
The average attendance per event was 449, which was the highest since 2004. The total attendance figure of 21,100 people was the most since 2006 when the auditorium entertained 22,200. The 47 events held last year was the most since 2007.
Some of the notable events held in the Parsons Municipal Auditorium in 2012 included concert performances by country artists Jo Dee Messina, The Oak Ridge Boys, Collin Raye and Roy Clark. Grammy-Award winning Zydeco musicians Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band also performed inside the auditorium after their scheduled Music in the Park concert was moved due to severe weather conditions.
The Parsons Municipal Auditorium has been entertaining audiences since an extensive historic restoration project was completed in 1989. Since then, a total of 1,094 events, both big and small, have been held at the auditorium. Conservative estimates place the total attendance since the auditorium's grand reopening at more than 500,000.
The City of Parsons would like to thank those who have supported programming and encourage you to watch for some great shows in 2013!
