Jasper County commissioners to take on former sheriff in lawsuit

Updated January 11, 2013 at 11:15 AM CST:  A lawsuit regarding compensation for housing prisoners in 2011 has been settled between Henry County, Missouri and Jasper County commissioners, but now Jasper County will be taking on former Sheriff Archie Dunn.

This morning Henry County and Jasper County agreed to settle for a $50,000 payment.  Henry County had been seeking $140,000.

However, as part of that settlement, Henry County is dropped and replaced by Jasper County in a separate case against the former sheriff.

Earlier in the day a motion filed by Dunn's attorney to replace Dunn's name on the lawsuit with the name of new Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser was denied.

Posted January 10, 2013 at 4:16 PM CST:  The Jasper County Commissioners and commission attorney Norman Rouse met in closed session this afternoon to discuss pending litigation.

Henry County, Missouri is suing to get compensation for housing prisoners sent there from the Jasper County jail by the previous sheriff, Archie Dunn.

Motions are to be heard tomorrow morning in the suit that names both Dunn and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.

Dunn's attorney has filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit against Dunn and to replace Dunn's name on the lawsuit with the name of new Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser.

Those motions are to be heard by a court tomorrow.
