MSSU Men's Basketball falls 95-69 at Lindenwood

Updated:

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Lindenwood Lions raced out to a 28-8 lead en route to a 95-69 win tonight over the Missouri Southern men's basketball team in MIAA action.

After the early Lindenwood run, Southern (7-5, 2-2 MIAA) answered back with a 14-9 run over the next six minutes to cut the lead to 15 (37-22), but the Lions went into the locker room trailing 48-33.

A three-pointer from Matt Everson with 12:44 left in the second half cut the Lindenwood (9-2, 2-2 MIAA) lead to just 14 (62-48), but that would be as close as Southern would get. Lindenwood's Tyler Ressel hit five three's on the night and finished with 21 points to lead the Lions.

Jordan Talbert led the way for Southern with 14 points and six rebounds as five Lions scored in double figures. Morgan Smith had a career high 13 points, while Cameron Cornelius tied a career high with 11. Everson and Marquis Addison both finished with ten points each.

The Lions shot 38 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc, but struggled at the line, making just 65 percent of their free-throws. Turnovers were even at 16, but Lindenwood shot 58 percent from the field and 48 percent from long range.

Southern will be back at it on Saturday when the Lions travel to Jefferson City to take on Lincoln University in a 3:30 pm tipoff.
