A retirement reception was held today in Girard, Kansas for former Crawford County Sheriff Sandy Horton.
Representatives from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Transportation, the City of Pittsburg and others attended to show their appreciation for their former sheriff.
Sheriff's officers even surprised Horton with a television. They said they got it for him because he always had Super Bowl parties and had to watch the big game on two little 10 inch TV's.
"Been very fortunate, only had one contested election, the very first one, and after that nobody's filed against me," says Horton. "That's been a good feeling, that we're doing something right. We kept doing the same philosophies and the things we were doing before and I think the men and women of the sheriff's office have served well and will continue to do that."
Horton worked for the county for 33 years.
