One dead in Fredonia fire

Updated at 4:32 PM CST:  Fire crews were called to a home along 13th Street in Fredonia, Kansas at around 8:30 this morning to find it up in flames.

Officials confirm that one man died, but they aren't releasing many details.

Neighbors who live around the home were surprised by the smoke.

"I had just gotten out of the shower and noticed it was smokey outside and looked out the back window and saw that the house was totally engulfed in flames," says neighbor Kristin Oliver.  "I was afraid of the other houses catching on fire too."

The fire is under investigation.

Posted January 17, 2013 at 12:13 PM CST:  An elderly Fredonia man is found dead after a morning fire.

It happened at 13th and Monroe shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim but the Wilson County sheriff describes him as the town greeter.
