Director of Joplin museum is honored for his service

Updated:

The Joplin Museum Complex hosted an event today honoring the service of Executive Director Brad Belk.  Belk has served the Joplin museum and the community for 25 years, conducting thousands of tours and showing off the history of the community.

In honor of his dedication a vast number of representatives from area districts, counties, and the offices of Senator Roy Blunt and Congressman Billy Long presented plaques to Belk, who said he was grateful for getting the opportunity to serve and organizers felt honoring him like this was fitting.

"It is quite an accomplishment and Brad has given so much to the community for so many years, that we just felt like this was a fitting thing to do for him," says Allen Shirley, a member of the Historic Society board.

"It has been an honor to serve and I feel that our community's history is very important, and I have been maybe a small part in that and that I greatly appreciate," says Belk.

Around 50 people attended today's event.
