
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Missouri Western capitalized on a late surge to rally past Pittsburg State and claim a 70-65 victory Wednesday (Jan. 30) at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
The Griffons (13-6, 6-5 MIAA) used a 10-0 run to turn a 58-53 deficit with 5:32 remaining in the contest into a 63-58 lead with 1:12 to play and Western held off the Gorillas (12-6, 6-4 MIAA) down the stretch.
Lizzy Jeronimus scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Pitt State. Morgan Westhoff added 14 points and Drew Roberts added 11 points.
Western had double figure scoring from four players led by 15 points from Heather Howard. Brittany Griswold and JaQuitta Dever added 14 apiece and Alicia Bell chipped in with 11 points.
The Gorillas, who have played five of their last six games on the road, will close out their second three-game road swing in Topeka Saturday with a 5 p.m. (CST) match-up against Washburn.
