Usually February's cold temperatures make a hot bowl of chili a big draw but even on a mild day folks came out in force to support the South East Kansas Humane Society. The 37th annual Chili Dinner was held today at the Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.
Besides chili, veggies and dessert, a country store with handmade goods were on sale to support the shelter. The humane society receives no tax money or public funding and relies on events like this for support.
"A lot of this is a reunion for animal lovers, they can get together and show their appreciation for what we do and keep the tradition alive" says Leslie Harris.
There are currently about 150 pets awaiting adoption with several on the waiting list.
