A Carl Junction school seventh grader is named a Merit Award winner by the Lions Club International.
Joanne Kim is one of 23 Merit Award winners of the 25th Annual Lions Club's International Peace Poster Contest.
Kim was one of 400,000 students worldwide to submit a poster this year.
Lions Club International created the contest to showcase the importance of world peace to youngsters.
Kim says she hopes her poster sends that message.
"I just hope that if they see my art piece to, you know, I want them to be inspired," says Kim. "I want them to think 'yeah, I wish I could work for a more peaceful world too.' So it makes me really happy."
Kim's poster advanced through regional competitions and was judged in the international competition held last week in Chicago.
