New Zora-North Main interchange concerns nearby residents

Updated:

Residents living near the new Zora interchange project take concerns over safety to Joplin's city council tonight.  The project includes connecting Zora Street in Joplin to North Main.

A completion date is set for May but nearby residents are worried.

The City of Joplin and the Missouri Department of Transportation have been planning for this project for years.

There are about half a dozen homes with backyards facing the new interchange and as work nears the last few months, the residents aren't liking what they're seeing.

No trees mean a nearby train is louder.  Headlights shine in the windows of some of the homes.  But the bigger issue these residents say is the safety of children playing the backyards.

There are no guard rails on the ramps getting on and off Main Street or Zora.

"We're concerned that, especially in icy conditions, that cars might go off of that and end up in some of our backyards," says Sherri Killingsworth.
