Pittsburg company breaks ground on $1 million expansion

Updated:

A Pittsburg local business breaks ground to make room for 20 more jobs in the next year.

AZZ Atkinson Industries has created about 40 jobs in the past year and claims to be bursting at the seems.  The makers of metal enclosures will put a $1 million investment toward a 10,000 square feet expansion for their office.

According to AZZ the 30 extra office spaces will allow breathing room to continue their growth.

"We'll be breaking ground this week and it should add the infrastructure for us to continue to grow as we've kind of doubled in sales in the last year," says Gary Mattson, Human Resources of AZZ.

"I think it shows that growth can happen in Pittsburg and is happening in Pittsburg," says Pittsburg City Commissioner Michael Gray.  "Some of our local community members believe that growth sometimes doesn't happen in communities like ours, but Atkinson is an example of that growth."

The company says the plan should take approximately four or five months to complete and they hope to be moved in by July.
