
PITTSBURG -- The Pitt State women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak and ended a four-game win streak for Truman with a 63-48 win at John Lance Arena Thursday (Feb. 7) night.
The win was also win No. 100 for Head Coach Lane Lord at Pittsburg State.
Lauren Brown recorded her second consecutive double digit scoring game with 19 points. She also had seven rebounds and six blocks. Lizzy Jeronimus added 15 points.
Pitt State shot 57 percent from the floor as a team in the game, including 61 percent in the first half. The Gorilla defense held Truman to 14-of-59 (.237) shooting for the game. The Gorillas were alos unselfish with the ball, dishing out 18 assists on 27 made shots on the night.
The Gorillas led from the 10 minute mark in the first half when Morgan Westhoff hit a three to put Pitt State up 13-12. THe team grabbed its first double digit lead of the game, 23-13, on a jumper by Drew Roberts with 6:50 left in the first half. A layup by Kylie Gafford two minutes later put the Gorillas in double digits for good. The team led 31-17 at the half.
Pitt State stayed strong in the second half and built up to a 16 point lead twice, first on a layup by Jeronimus at 14:49 and again on a Lauren Brown layup with 13:08 remaining to make the score 45-29. Truman cut the lead to 10 with just under seven minutes on the clock.
The Gorillas return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 as the team takes on Southwest Baptist. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m. in Pittsburg.
