Gorilla Men Knock Off Bulldogs

PITTSBURG -- Rico Pierrevilus posted game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Pittsburg State to a 79-75 victory over Truman Thursday (Feb. 7) at John Lance Arena.

The Gorillas (14-6, 7-5 MIAA) trailed by as many as seven points midway through the second half to the Bulldogs (7-13, 4-8 MIAA) but Pitt State rallied down the stretch.

Pitt State used a 13-3 run to turn a 55-49 deficit into a 62-58 advantage with 4:46 to play in the game. The Gorillas stretched their margin to seven points, at 71-64 with 2:41 to play in the contest.

Truman twice trimmed the deficit to three points in the final two minutes but could not come all the way back.

The Gorillas shot 48.1 percent from the field in the contest, making 26 of 54 shots from the floor. Pitt State was 16 of 28 shooting in the second half (57.1 percent).

AJ Adams added 17 points, while Kaleb Porter and Marky Nolen chipped in with 12 points apiece.

Truman got a team-leading 20 points from Seth Jackson, while Mike Carlson (13), Tom Norton (11) and Marek Bush (10) also scored in double figures.

The Gorillas return to action Saturday (Feb. 9) when they play host to Southwest Baptist at 3:30 p.m. (CST). The Bearcats dropped a 100-91 decision to Missouri Southern Thursday at Joplin, Mo.
