New businesses coming to 7th and Range Line area

Updated:

New businesses are coming to one of the busiest intersections in Joplin - the northeast corner of 7th and Range Line Road.

The site of the old Grand Fortuna restaurant was purchased for more than a million dollars.  The restaurant had been there for years but has been torn down and the site will soon be cleared for a new restaurant and other businesses.

Chipotle, Kay Jewelers and Mattress Firm will soon join other businesses at the intersection near Target.

Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce President Rob O'Brian says says there's been an economic recession that stalled national companies looking to build in Joplin.  But in the meantime there's been land owners and developers waiting for the right time to bring in national commerce.

"When the economy started to rebound and these companies began looking again, they were well positioned to take advantage of that," says O'Brian.

O'Brian says the post-tornado spirit and determination of Four Staters has added a spark.

"These companies are coming back now and saying this may well be the time to come here," O'Brian says.

The developer says several retailers were interested in the project and Chipotle and Kay Jewelers have signed a 10 year lease, while Mattress Firm will be under a 12 years lease.

The land's developer says the building project is set to be complete by late summer.
