Gorillas Use Strong Bullpen, Long Balls for 16-5 Win

Updated:

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State bullpen scattered four hits over seven innings of strong relief and the Gorillas used four long balls to rally from a 5-0 deficit and claim a 16-5 victory over Maryville (Mo.) Sunday (Feb. 17) at Al Ortolani Field.

Ryan Bilovesky hit a pair of home runs, while Evan Thomas added a two-run shot and Cody Ball belted a three-run homer that gave the Gorillas (2-0) an 8-5 lead to overcome the early deficit.

Brett Cares (1-0), Jake Stevenson, Cameron Fischer, Ryan McCay and James Fitzgearlds held the Saints at bay after they touched starter Cody Wren for five runs and seven hits in the first two frames.

Bilovesky led Pitt State's 15-hit attack with three hits and he scored three runs.

The Gorillas will return to action Wednesday (Feb. 20) when they open MIAA play at home against Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. (CST).
