A man injured by his father-in-law with a double bit axe has authorities investigating an incident Monday evening in Delaware County, Oklahoma.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office says in a news release that Clarence Newby, 61, called authorities Monday evening saying his daughter stole his prescription drugs. The daughter, Teresa Sixkiller, left the residence but returned a few minutes later with her husband, Cecil Sixkiller Jr.

That is when Newby again called authorities, telling the dispatcher "he tried to hit me and I hit him with a chopping axe".

Authorities say the Sixkiller's left the home but were stopped by local law enforcement. Emergency personnel responded, stabilized the son-in-law's arm injury, then air-lifted him to a hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas where he underwent surgery. He was last listed in stable condition.

Newby has been arrested and faces a charge of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon.
