Now that the Internet is becoming increasingly important in our everyday lives, it is important for business’s to create accessible websites for increased usability. An accessible website will make you money, save you money and help people with disabilities participate and contribute more actively in society.

St. Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) February 20, 2013

WeCo is a young organization with the goal of providing website accessibility information to organizations that need it. WeCo recently published, on its website, links and resources for the business IT, management, marketing and public relations personnel to help build The Business Case for Web Accessibility.

Website accessibility takes into consideration issues that need to be addressed for individuals with any form of disability. This includes being able to access, use, understand, navigate, communicate with, interact with and contribute to the Internet. It is important that websites are accessible in order to provide equal access and opportunities to people with disabilities. Section 508 legislation is now being enforced as a legal requirement, for government agencies and businesses that receive any type of Federal funding, to make their websites accessible.

"Internet accessibility is not just a social responsibility or a legal requirement, it also provides benefits to business", says Lynn Wehrman, Founder and President of WeCo. These benefits have a direct commercial impact including:

  • Improve the website and increase usability for all visitors while showing a commitment to the disabled community, who has $175 billion in discretionary income.
  • Increase the reach of the audience that can use the site (51.2 million disabled individuals in the U.S. alone) thus increasing the traffic to the website and expanding potential market share.
  • Increase search ranking potential.
  • Protect and increase the awareness of the brand and generate positive PR.
  • Comply with Section 508 legislation and WCAG standards reducing legal liabilities.
  • Standardize web design which can cut production and maintenance costs.

The U.S. Department of Justice believes that website accessibility makes good business sense. Businesses can tap into a growing market of people with disabilities, and customers with disabilities can gain access to services, products, and employment opportunities.

Along with providing this information WeCo offers many training courses and specializes in Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 verification. WeCo facilitates an organization’s access to trained professionals, who live with disabilities, who will help ensure that websites, e-documents and software are accessible and useful to people living with disabilities.

Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, WeCo is a mission-based, for-profit organization. While creating a strong accessibility learning environment for businesses, WeCo also provides professional employment to people who live with disabilities. WeCo is recognized by the State of Minnesota as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. In the first year in business WeCo was featured in the MarketWatch Wall Street Journal, Google Finance and Tech{dot}MN. Find more about the company at theweco.com.
