KDOT prepares for slick roads

Updated:

In anticipation of a winter storm, preparations are underway to help drivers in the days to come.

Crews continue to be on hand at the Kansas Department of Transportation location in Pittsburg.  Trucks are on standby.

They started earlier today, treating roads and preparing trucks for the storm heading our way.  Advance treatments include a salt and limestone mix.

KDOT crews were divided into two teams consisting of 25 members.  The first team came in this morning.  The next will arrive this evening to pretreat during the storm and as snow falls crews will switch treatments to a sand and rock salt mixture.

KDOT says that mixture will be used as snow begins to accumulate on the roads.

If you are traveling during the storm of course give yourself extra time to get somewhere and always use caution.
