Developers eyeing land near site of new Mercy hospital in Joplin

Updated:

Mercy hospital officials say recently they're seeing a lot more developers looking at land near the new hospital in Joplin.

This comes as the hospital is taking shape every day.

A man who owns about 42 acres of land near the new hospital also says more developers are wanting to buy parts or even all of his land for sale.

Mercy officials say they expect to see most nearby development shortly after the new hospital opens.

"I know when we built the hospital in Rogers we were kind of out in the field all by our self and now if you go to Rogers, oh my goodness, there's a new mall and a new Cabela's, and restaurants, and everything all around it," says John Farnen of Mercy Health System.

Mercy officials also expect some nearby residential properties to about double in value.
