Traffic is moving steadily throughout the Four States for the most part. But while road crews have been out all day a lot of streets remain treacherous.
This morning even Joplin police cars struggled to get traction on sleet covered streets.
It was especially a problem for vehicles with rear wheel drive.
Police say Interstate 44 was the site of at least one crash and several vehicles off in ditches.
MODOT had multiple crews plowing but freezing rain kept falling and creating more slush.
Police say call volume was relatively low as a lot of drivers apparently heeded warnings.
But some drivers struggled.
"So people have forgotten how to drive in this, so the biggest thing is slow down, turn your headlights on, plan accordingly to where you want to go," says Corporal Dan Haskins of the Joplin Police Department. "You can't take the same time as it's going to take to get across town - everything's going to go a lot slower."
Police warn that even after the slush melts streets will be wet and slippery and many will have patches of black ice.
