A former Greenwood County, Kansas deputy is charged with a theft of a handgun.

The Wilson County sheriff's office says David Lumley, 65, allegedly stole a handgun from their department in August 2012.

Lumley was investigating a case out of Wilson County when he allegedly stole the gun.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation took over the case and filed a report with the Wilson County attorney's office.

Lumley turned himself in last Friday.

He worked as the Wilson County under sheriff for several years prior to his job in Greenwood County.

His first court appearance is March 14.
