Roberts Scores 1,000th Point in Gorilla Win

Updated:

EDMOND, Okla. -- Drew Roberts scored her 1,000th career point as a Gorilla as she helped lead the Pitt State women's basketball team to a 79-68 win over Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon. Roberts finished the game with 15 points, tying her season high. She now has 1,014 career points.

Lauren Brown and LIzzy Jeronimus each led the team with double-doubles. Each scored 16 points, Brown led with 14 rebounds, while Jeronimus contributed 10. Alexa Bordewick and Morgan Westhoff each added nine points.

Pitt State built as much as a six point lead in the first half, but the Gorillas went for nearly five minutes without a shot from the floor, which allowed the Bronchos to close the gap and tie the game at 31-31 with 4:13 left in the half. For the next four minutes, the lead volleyed between the two teams. The Bronchos got the final word, as Savannah Hamilton hit a three at the buzzer to put the Bronchos up 41-40 at the half.

UCO had its last lead of the game, 43-42, with 19:13 left in the game. Lauren Brown hit a layup less than a minute later and the Gorillas never trailed again. A Bordewick three with just over eight minutes remaining gave the team its first double digit lead of the game and the team earned as much as a 14 point lead with less than a minute left.

The Bronchos Jill Bryan led all players with 18 points. Hamilton added 12.

Pitt State returns home for the remainder of the regular season. The team will host Missouri Southern for a Pink Game and Sonic Trophy Series game on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
