Tomato gravy - KOAM TV 7

Tomato gravy

Submitted by Betty Canup of Texas.

1 bunch of green tomatoes
1 large can of chopped tomatoes
2 Tbs. flour(for thickening)
1/4 cup water(for thickening)
1 Tbs. sugar
2 Tbs. bacon drippings
Chili powders to taste.

Brown the chopped onions in the bacon grease. Add the tomatoes and cook a few minutes. Thicken with the flour paste and season with the sugar. Cook until thick.

Serve over hot biscuits or bread and sprinkle with the chili powder to taste.

*My parents ate tomato gravy for their Thanksgiving Dinner when moving to our homeplace in 1939, cooked over an open fire.
