PITTSBURGH, Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CONSOL Energy Inc. (CNX) is pleased to announce a $5,000 donation to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment.  Coach Bob Huggins of the WVU Men's Basketball Team accepted the donation at CONSOL Energy's Robinson Run Camp Run Portal in Mannington, W.Va. during their midnight shift change on February 22, 2013.

"Each day, we have employees working in our coal operations wearing hard hats decaled with the 'Flying WV.'  On behalf of them, and the company-wide Mountaineer fan base, we are extremely grateful that Coach Huggins was able to make this special visit," stated Chuck Shaynak, senior vice president of CONSOL Energy's northern West Virginia operations.

The $5,000 donation was made possible through CONSOL Energy's Working Safely for a Cause Program, an initiative that affords each participating mine within the company the opportunity to choose a philanthropic cause for each quarter worked without injury.  Through this program, CONSOL Energy's northern West Virginia mines -- Blacksville No. 2 in Monongalia County and Loveridge and Robinson Run in Marion County – together have raised more than $50,000 for charitable causes in the past year.

"Much camaraderie is created within each shift when employees can band together to work with the goal of safety, and giving back to those in need," commented Shaynak.

The $5,000 donation will go to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Fund directly contributing to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Research Center located at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

"Many thanks to the great people at CONSOL Energy's Robinson Run midnight shift for their generous donation to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment.  We had a great time interacting with West Virginia's finest.  Thanks again for your support!" commented Huggins.
