Child abuse center seeks help to build new facility

Updated:

A local child abuse center seeks your help to build a new facility.

The Children's Center in Nevada, Missouri needs about $150,000 in donations to buy or build a new structure.

The center provides treatment and services for abuse victims.

The new center would be at a more discrete location and would be more than twice the size of the current spot downtown.  The center would also like to have sound proof rooms and be ADA accessible.

"We do not have adequate space for all of the needs of our children's center, children come back here for extended interviews with a therapist, they may come back here for therapy to follow up, and we just don't have the mechanisms by which to do that," says Jeani Longstreth, a forensic interviewer.

The center has just begun its fundraising effort.

Mail donations to The Children's Center, PO Box 72, Nevada, MO 64772
