A woman walking with her husband in a Neosho, Missouri park has been shot in both legs with a single bullet.
The Neosho Police Department says the couple were on the walking trail in Morse Park when they heard gunshots in the distance. They decided to go back to their car and were near a walking bridge near the ball fields when they heard more gunshots.
The 29 year-old woman says she felt a stinging in her legs and realized she had been shot through her lower thighs.
Police say the shot may have come from someone who was poaching deer or was just careless.
"That's a very likely scenario that whoever made these shots didn't realize anything happened at all and it's very difficult to investigate," says Neosho Police Chief David McCracken.
"That's what it amounts to, is someone being careless, obviously, either that or poaching. There is a lot of deer in that area and in any case it's a very careless mistake that could have cost someone their life."
The victim was treated and released with no serious damage resulting.
