Joplin's Ozark Center opens new housing for homeless youth. Ozark Center offers a program called "Path" that helps teens ages 17 to 22. Path already offers eight apartment units for the young adults who have aged out of the foster system.
Now, Path has opened an additional eight apartment units.
The new apartment complex will offer a few more amenities.
"One, we have a storm shelter for all the children and they are very happy about that, and they feel really safe about that," says Vicky Mieseler of the Ozark Center. "But there are things you can do in those rooms when it's not stormy outside and so all the rooms have activities assigned to them."
Path requires each tenant to contribute a small percentage of their income towards rent, and participate in program activities, education, employment, or community service for 40 hours each week.
