Joplin Police Search for Possible Armed Suspect

Updated:

Joplin Police are searching for a possible armed suspect.

At 8:49 this morning officers responded to a suspicious vehicle located in the wooded area north west of the intersection at Perkins St. and McCoy Ave. Officers learned that the red 1989 Ford Pickup truck had been stolen in Vernon County on March 9th.

It had been reported the occupant of the truck was armed and dangerous.

As police observed the truck, a male returned to it, entered it and attempted to leave. As the truck approached a perimeter officer, the occupant fled on foot. Due to the report that the male was most likely armed, the Joplin Police Department's SWAT team and a member of the department's K-9 Unit were sent to the scene. Teams searched the area.

According to Corporal Larry Swinehart, the male remains at large.
