Joseph Agofsky Dies In Federal Prison

An Anderson, Missouri man guilty of robbery and assisting in the drowning death of a Grand Lake area banker dies in prison.

According to Anderson based Ozark Funeral Home and federal prison records Joseph Anthony Agofsky, 46, died on March 5th in a North Carolina federal prison.

Agofsky and his brother Shannon were convicted of abducting Dan Short on October 6th of 1989, driving him to a Noel bank to help them steal $71,000.00 then driving him back to Grand Lake,  binding him to a wooden chair and then tossing him in the lake from Cowskin Bridge.

Shorts body was found five days later near Grove. Both men received a federal life sentence for the robbery.

Shannon was convicted of Shorts death, but Joseph was not.

Shannon Agofsky is currently on death row in Terra Haute Indiana.
